What You’ll Do:
As a Lead Electrical Estimator, you’ll be responsible for leading the preparation of accurate, competitive electrical cost estimates for industrial and commercial construction projects, while providing leadership to the electrical estimating team. You will be responsible for the overall preparation and development of complete proposals in response to client requests. You will be expected to work closely and collaboratively with the entire estimating and operating teams to effectively develop the best-in-class proposals. This role supports bid strategy development, mentorship, and close collaboration with operations and project management teams.
This is an office-based leadership role with occasional site visits as required.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and provide day-to-day guidance to the electrical estimating team, including workload coordination, technical support, proposal development, and mentoring to ensure high-quality, consistent estimates
- Lead, prepare, and review detailed electrical cost estimates for industrial construction projects
- Coordinate full-scope estimating activities including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope, risks, and opportunities
- Develop quantity take-offs and detailed costing sheets using estimating software
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations; negotiate pricing as required
- Develop and maintain standardized estimating systems for recurring or similar project types
- Provide estimating support during bid clarification, tender submissions, and post-award transitions
- Support development of project budgets, change order pricing, and project close-out cost analysis
- Liaise professionally with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders regarding tender documentation and clarifications
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to other estimators
- Participate in site visits as required to validate scope and assumptions
- Work under pressure to meet bid deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
You’ll collaborate closely with the Estimating team and report directly to the Estimating and Proposal Lead helping drive innovation and excellence in Electrical Estimating team.
What We're Looking For:
- Electrical Engineering Degree, Electrical Technologist diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive experience estimating electrical work in a heavy industrial construction environment
- Prior lead or senior estimating experience is required
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, materials, labour productivity, and construction methodologies
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Bid2Win or similar platforms)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and computer-based estimating tools
