Pennecon Services & Maintenance and Marine is currently accepting applications for the following position:

Role: Assistant Controller 

Location: St. John’s, NL

The Assistant Controller is responsible to work closely with the Controller and manage the overall financial operations of the Pennecon Services & Maintenance and Marine group of companies and will provide accurate information to the Director, Finance and Business Unit Managers including analysis, budgeting, forecasting and preparing financial reports.

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for:

  • Assist the Controller with month end and year end preparations including Audits
  • Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions;
  • Monitoring closing processes, billing, invoicing, expenses, reimbursements, and payroll administration;
  • Monitoring and updating budgets;
  • Leadership, coaching and supervision of accounting staff;
  • Establishing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures;
  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process;
  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new process or process efficiencies.
  • Other duties as required

To succeed in the position, you will have the following:

  • A business degree or diploma with a MBA or CPA designation;
  • 5+ years’ experience in a senior accounting position
  • Ability to manage a small team of accounting professionals;
  • Be highly detailed oriented – having the right numbers drives you forward;
  • The successful candidate will be an effective team player with a positive attitude. 
  • Other combination of education or experience will be considered.

Please note, this position will be eligible to participate in our Flexible Work program, allowing the incumbent to work two scheduled days per week at home.
